The world's top 50 steel companies announced: Baowu ranked first, 28 Chinese steel companies on the list

On June 7, the World Steel Association released the "World Steel Statistics 2022" in Brussels, which introduced the operation of the steel industry from indicators such as steel production and consumption.

The worldsteel association announced the production ranking of major steel companies in 2021, and a total of 28 Chinese steel companies in the top 50 list are on the list. Among them, China Baowu Iron and Steel Group ranked first with an output of 120 million tons, and ArcelorMittal continued to rank second, with a crude steel output of 79.26 million tons last year.

China Baowu was formed by the reorganization of the former Baosteel Group and the former Wuhan Iron and Steel Group. Since then, the production capacity including Taiyuan Iron and Steel, Kunming Iron and Steel, Maanshan Iron and Steel and Chongqing Iron and Steel has been integrated. In 2020, China Baowu Group's crude steel production capacity exceeded 100 million tons. In crude steel output, China Baowu surpassed Luxembourg steel company ArcelorMittal for the first time to become the world's number one.

Anshan Iron and Steel Group, which officially merged with Benxi Iron and Steel Group in August last year, jumped to 55.65 million tons of crude steel in 2021, ranking third in the world and second among domestic steel companies, second only to China's Baowu. In the previous year's list, Ansteel Group's crude steel output was 38.19 million tons, ranking seventh in the world and fourth in China.

Japan Steel Corporation ranked fourth, China's Shagang Group ranked fifth, Hegang Group, Jianlong Group and Shougang Group ranked seventh to ninth, South Korea's Posco and India's Tata Steel The group ranks sixth and tenth.

China remains the world's largest steel producer and consumer, with India, Japan, the United States and Russia ranking second to fifth in that order.

According to data provided by the World Steel Association, in 2021, the global crude steel production will be 1.951 billion tons, which was only 189 million tons in 1950. In 2021, China's crude steel output will be 1.033 billion tons, accounting for 52.9% of the global total; China's apparent steel consumption in that year will be 952 million tons, accounting for 51.9% of the global total.

Edwin Basson, director general of the World Steel Association, pointed out that data show that steel production and consumption in most countries and regions in the world will increase significantly in 2021, but the geopolitical conflict in Eastern Europe has shaken people's concerns about the economic recovery from the epidemic in 2022 and beyond. , expectations of a stable recovery.

World Steel Association predicts that world steel demand will increase by 0.4% in 2022 to 1,804.2 million tons; in 2023, global steel demand will increase by 2% to 1,881.4 million tons.
